Medical Response Technician (MRT)

The MRT provides immediate lifesaving care for critical patients who become suddenly ill or injured outside of the hospital. The MRT possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide lifesaving care while waiting for an amblulance for transport to an emergency department. The MRT performs basic interventions with minimal equipment. The MRT is the first responder at the scene and the link to the transporting service. This program meets the requirements for certification by the Connecticut Department of Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS).

Credential: OEMS Certificate (2 year expiration)
Target Audience: Police, Fire, Ambulance, Emergency Response Teams
Course Duration: 56 hours
Refresher Duration: 18 hours


Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

The EMT provides basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who become suddenly ill or injured outside of the hospital. The EMT possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide care in a patient transport situation. The EMT performs interventions with basic and limited advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. The EMT is the link from the scene to the emergency department. This program meets the requirements for certification by the Connecticut Department of Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).

Credential: OEMS and NREMT Certificates (2 year expiration)

Course Duration: 120 - 150 hours
Refresher Duration: 26 hours


MRT to EMT Bridge Training

This program is designed to train the MRT to the EMT level and prepare the candidate for the OEMS and NREMT examinations.



Regional Mobile Intensive Care Program

The regional MIC program is for currently certified EMS organizations and personnel that require training in MAST, Epi-Pen and advanced airway techniques (when reinstated). Complies with the regional standard operating procedures for maintaining MIC certification.
